The idea for EUROPIA proposal emerged from the failing image and the diminishing faith in the purpose, strength and actual power of the EU. More & more voices are being raised in favour of more decentralised & more national governance. However, after the two-year Covid-19 crisis and the current burning military conflict in Ukraine, Europe needs to stand united more than ever. Thus, its people should be reminded of the common principles and values that underlie life in the EU i.e. freedom, democracy, equality and the rule of law, promoting peace and stability.
Therefore, EUROPIA main objectives is to develop an innovative, holistic, integral and modular training approach for enhancing the capacities of university academia to conduct educational process in the field of European history, law and politics with a specific & target focus on the shared European values, principles, identity and awareness.
EUROPIA sets out also the following specific objectives:
- Raise the awareness of the university academia about the need to organize and conduct on-wheels schools in European history, law and politics from the viewpoint of the shared European values, principles and identity to overcome the existing stereotypes and prejudice in students from different parts of Europe.
- Elaborate specific and high-quality materials that shall define and overcome the problems of how the European studies are taught in different countries for the benefit of both academia & students and society in general
- Develop the competences of university academia in on-wheels school organisation and conduction with students with interest in the socio-cultural evolution of European values, principles and identity and their perception from national viewpoint.
- Stress the importance for deeper understanding of the EU concept “United in diversity” through defining the main principles and approaches for stimulation of the socio-cultural competencies of the higher education teaching staff.
